Easy‑Laser: Designing Precision for a Circular Future

Easy-Laser is a world-leading manufacturer of laser-based measurement and alignment systems. With a mission to make “measurement the easy way,” Easy-Laser helps industries keep their machines running smoothly and precisely. Their solutions are used across the marine, energy, oil and gas, and manufacturing sectors. Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Mölndal, Sweden, the company has spent more than three decades refining both accuracy and reliability.

Easy-Laser’s ambition is clear: their products should be used as often as possible, for as long as possible, delivering maximum impact with minimal resource use. In this way, sustainability has always been at the core of their business. According to Easy-Laser’s Product Designer Melina Åkesson, sustainability, and specifically circular design, is central to the company’s approach, as it ensures that the material value invested in production remains in circulation for as long as possible.

Regarding the company’s goals, as well as what they hope to achieve by participating in the Nordic Circular Design Programme, Melina Åkesson elaborates: “Our goal is to build a smarter, more sustainable, and future-ready business. We aim to upgrade our systems, grow service-based revenue, and advance our cloud journey. We want to design products for circular use and multiple life cycles, reduce the climate impact of production, and make it easier for customers to access our solutions through flexible options like rental, leasing, and trade-ins, while helping as many customers as possible move toward more sustainable production through our services.”

Their ambitions around sustainability and circular design align closely with their mission to support customers in achieving more sustainable production. Reflecting on Easy-Laser’s main motivation to invest in sustainable production, Melina Åkesson explains that Easy-Laser has a strong desire to be part of the green transition: “The reason it’s especially topical right now is that we are running out of resources on a global scale while creating more waste. We do not want to contribute to this.

Another reason why circular design is particularly important to Easy-Laser right now is the identified need to design for repairability and to create strong opportunities for moving toward a more circular product offering. They are ready to advance this approach through future product development and business models.
